Do you have a favorite memory of working with Wild Hill?

“Every single time I’ve worked with Wild Hill has been dreamy! I loved collaborating for Something White’s open house in 2019. Wild Hill installed gorgeous “vines” that wound up the ropes that suspend our racks from the ceiling and it was so gorgeous! I hated taking them down and waited until they were completely dead and the other girls at the shop were begging me to take them down - hahaha! I think my all time favorite memory will be working with Wild Hill for my wedding in December. <3”

Advice for brides getting ready to shop for their gown?

“Our biggest piece of advice for wedding gown shopping is to keep an open mind and plan ahead. It’s good to have an idea of what you’re looking for in advance so you can research the right bridal boutiques but keep an open mind as styles look different in person and on. Plan ahead in terms of researching the right bridal boutiques and shop early so you have more options and don’t run into rush options.”

“We are hosting a Casablanca trunk show April 23-25. The full collection will be in shop and available for 10% off for the weekend only!”

Luxury Engagement Shoot at Kansas City Union Station

Earlier this summer we teamed up with a group of amazing Kansas City vendors to host a luxury engagement shoot giveaway (see below for the full team)! One couple would win the opportunity to get dressed to the nines by Bella Bridesmaid and Houndstooth, test out a bridal look with Bronzed & Blushed, receive styling and expert guidance from Events by Elle, and participate in a luxury engagement shoot with the talented photographer, Bailey Pianalto, at the iconic Kansas City Union Station. The gorgeous shoot also included a fun vintage car from Pech Limo, champagne from Pierponts and floral details from our Wild Hill team! This shoot turned out to be even more of a dream because of our gorgeous winning couple, Megan and Mike! We can’t stop swooning over each beautiful photo! Check out some of the beautiful details below!

All these details from our vendor dream team came together perfectly for Megan and Mike’s classic and luxurious engagement photos.

And can we just take a moment to appreciate this gorgeous space? Union station was the ultimate iconic Kansas City spot for the day! The grand soaring ceilings, marble floors, and historic elements all came together to create a timeless and elegant backdrop! Do you have a favorite memory of working with Wild Hill?

“Yes!!! I have quite a few memories that it’s so hard to choose just one! One of my absolute favorites though is when I met Jenni for the first time while participating in an open house event together. Within five minutes of meeting her, I felt like I had known her for years! We talked about having horses, living in the country, our business, etc. etc. I could have chatted all night!! :) Not only is Jenni one of the most genuine humans you’ll ever meet but she is crazy TALENTED!!! For real. She has truly been an inspiration to me (and SO many other KC wedding professionals I know). I adore Jenni and her Wild Hill team!!”

Advice for brides planning their wedding cake?

“LIGHTING AND BACKDROP! When you’re planning where your wedding cake should be at the reception, take lighting into consideration and also what you would like your backdrop to be. This is something that is often overlooked. Think about what would look nice in a photo. If there is no spotlight on your cake when the ballroom lights are dimmed, your cake will be lost in the room! Sometimes I will spend a considerable amount of time making the perfect shade of blue (ie: to match the bridesmaids’ dresses) and then the ballroom lights are dimmed and what was blue, now looks grey!”

How can bride’s get started with booking their wedding cake?

“Book a tasting box with Blue Thistle! Sample our cakes at your leisure with a Blue Thistle Tasting Kit! Each box contains up to four flavors of your choice from our menu and is $25 (prepaid). We offer monthly tasting boxes to be picked up in our Lee’s Summit cake studio. ”

Wild Hill Cutting Garden Update!

Back in March we announced some very exciting news: the launch of our very own Wild Hill cutting garden! This winter we purchased flower seeds from one of our favorites, Floret Flowers! Then, early in the spring as the ground began to warm, we set out to build our cutting garden and plant a variety of unique seeds! You can read all about the start to this adventure on our previous blog post, “Exciting News: Wild Hill Cutting Garden Coming Soon!”.

Fast forward to July and our team’s hard work is blooming (literally)! Every day we are seeing new buds and blooms sprout up! Keep scrolling to see the growth!

7 Bouquet Tips for Your Wedding Day

You’ve spent months planning your dream wedding and the big day is finally here! On your wedding day there are so many feelings of excitement, joy, anticipation, and likely some nerves mixed in! You have probably dreamt of how your bridal look will come together on this special day as you combine your beautiful gown, hair and makeup, the perfect pair of shoes, and of course your bridal bouquet! But, for many brides, it’s possible you’ve never thought about how to hold your bouquet in photos or how to care for it throughout the day to get those perfect Instagram and Pinterest-worthy wedding photos!

With this in mind, we’ve compiled a list of our top 7 things to remember about your bouquet on your wedding day! Take it from me (a bride who walked down the aisle with her bouquet covering half her face), you are going to want to read these tips now before you get to the aisle!  

Tip #1     Hold your bouquet down at your waist during photos! This one goes for bridesmaids too! It may seem obvious, but with so many other things going on, it can be easy to forget!

Tip #2     Hold your bouquet close to your body, with all the beautiful blooms facing out towards your photographer. Many photographers are great at directing brides to do this, but it’s still a good reminder! If you forget to angle your bouquet out and hold it straight up and down, you will miss seeing all the gorgeous blooms from your custom floral collection in your photos.

Tip #3     Cascading bouquets: If you’ve chosen a cascading bouquet, it is especially important to make sure you hold your bouquet correctly in photos! The cascading side (the side of the bouquet with flowers and/or greenery extending down and out from the rest of the bouquet) should point down towards the ground. You will also need to tilt the bouquet out towards the photographer, with the stems close to your waist. We are happy to provide direction when we deliver your flowers on the day of the wedding!

Tip #4     Make sure to keep your bouquet low at your waist ESPECIALLY when you walk down the aisle – I know, I know…this seems obvious and we mentioned this is Tip #1, BUT walking down the aisle will probably be the most emotional 30 seconds of your day and you will most likely be holding your bouquet in only one hand as you are escorted down the aisle! Make sure your smile and neckline are visible for your soon to be husband and photographer!

Tip #5     Keep your bouquet in its vase of water when you aren’t using it for photos or the ceremony! We deliver all bouquets in cylinders with water! Fresh flowers need water to stay alive and make it through the full wedding day!

Tip #6     Have a small towel on hand! Like we mentioned above, your flowers will be delivered in water and should be kept in their vase when you aren’t using them. A small towel or paper towels are great for drying off the stems to keep your wedding dress dry and watermark free all day!

7.     Be aware of the temperature! Outdoor photos are often part of the wedding day and we are all about that natural light, but keep an eye on the weather! Flowers can die quickly in extreme temperatures. Many flower varieties begin to die in temperatures below 33 degrees. On the opposite end of the spectrum, your flowers will most likely start wilting if they are left out in the summer heat or direct sunlight (especially if they aren’t in water). If you have to get that perfect snowstorm shot, we’d suggest waiting until after the ceremony… and for those mid-summer outdoor ceremonies, make sure you get your bouquet in water, as soon as possible following the ceremony!

Do you have a favorite memory of working with Wild Hill?

“Wild Hill did the flowers at my own wedding in 2017 (Lauren)! And ever since, we’ve loved watching them grow and expand their team! Jenni has always been an inspiration for a small company like us! ”

Advice for brides thinking about wedding invitations?

“Don’t be afraid to make your stationery unique! You don’t have to have something you’ve seen before or exactly what you found on Pinterest! We can make something that really reflects you as a couple and reflects your wedding day as a whole. Your stationery sets the tone for the whole wedding and it’s the first piece that your guests will see, so let’s make a good first impression! ”

What’s New at East + West?

“We just launched a collection of semi-custom designs. These will allow couples to edit certain aspects of the design to make them work with their wedding style but it’s at a more budget friendly price-point! We are still doing our fully custom designs but we saw a need in the industry (especially during this hard time) for a budget-friendly option to stationery!”

Classic Wedding at The Abbott KC

This week on the Wild Hill blog we are featuring one of our favorite weddings at The Abbott KC. If you’ve never been there, The Abbott is located in the Crossroads District of downtown Kansas City. The venue is the perfect canvas for any wedding day with vaulted ceilings, white-washed brick walls, stunning chandeliers and a rooftop terrace. What more could a bride ask for, right?! It’s no surprise that our Wild Hill Bride, Joanne, chose this stunning Kansas City venue as the backdrop for her big day last August. The Bride

We absolutely loved working with Joanne to help make her wedding vision come alive. For her wedding dress, she chose a stunning Enzoani fitted gown from Something White Bridal Boutique and completed her bridal look with a classic updo from Hello Lovely! We designed a full textured round garden bouquet of white and ivory blooms with eucalyptus and jasmine accents to match Joanne’s wedding style. We included white and ivory blooms such as garden roses, hydrangea, ranunculus, lisianthus and dahlias in her floral collection.

The Ceremony

Joanne and George started their August wedding day with a ceremony at Country Club Christian Church. The beautiful church exterior, complete with a stone archway and wreath decorated double-doors, made for the perfect grand exit for these newlyweds!

The Reception

Following their church ceremony, the party moved to The Abbott! Guests entered the stunning Kansas City venue to find perfectly set tables complete with navy linens and gold rimmed chargers from Ultrapom. Joanne and George chose a variety of different centerpieces styles including large, lush arrangements on tall clear curvy stands, medium low arrangements in clear glass compotes, as well as pillar candle trios with greenery surrounding. We always love a variety of centerpieces to keep the eye moving throughout the space. One of our favorite focal points of the reception was the head table! The couple chose to sandwich a sweetheart table between two long Tuscan tables to seat their entire bridal party. The sweetheart table featured the classic Charlotte Settee chair from Ultrapom, as well as two beautiful wreaths attached to The Abbott’s sliding barn doors. To finish off this beautiful reception, Joanne and George chose a simple white 4-tier cake from Blue Thistle Cakery, which we adorned with garden roses and eucalyptus. We love how this wedding day came together thanks to a wonderful team of vendors (see below). What was your favorite detail about Joanne and George’s Abbott wedding?
